Robert Ellis – Texas Piano Man w/Ian O’Neil from Deer Tick at The Basement East
On Tuesday night, April 9th 2019, Robert Ellis with Ian O?Neil of Deer Tick came to The Basement East to give Nashville a show they will not soon forget.
Robert Ellis put aside his primary instrument, the guitar, and took to composing music with the piano to create the 2019 album, Texas Piano Man. Mixing country and folk music, and a touch of rock and roll, Ellis gives us a whole new experience that somehow also takes us back to the great piano men that came before him.
Alongside Ellis Tuesday night was Ian O?Neil of Deer Tick on the guitar. Ellis performed a crowd favorite, ?Fu**ing Crazy? to open the show, then went on to perform other hits like ?Passive Aggressive?, ?Nobody Smokes Anymore?, and a cover of the Billy Joel hit ?You Might Be Right?. The crowd sang right along with Ellis on every single track, which is definitely a great sign of things to come for the 31 year old singer/songwriter.
Ellis? fans are mostly a younger crowd, which makes sense since his latest album has a bit more colorful language than the older Southern crowd would typically allow. As a Texas native that has since relocated to Nashville, it looks like Ellis has found his home here in the Music City and is bound to gain a stronger following if he keeps up performances like this one!
