Spiders Kiss

The Band Spiders Kiss is an up and coming Alt-rock/Metal Band that utilizes theatrics on and off stage, and engages largely in a lore based story.

Ben Neely: Sitting here with Sam Purdon (lead guitarist) Nashville, TN and Cameron Kincaid (lead singer) Nashville, TN of Spiders Kiss.

What is the image of the band? What Genre?

Sam: Well, Spiders Kiss is an Alt-rock/Metal Band containing theatrical elements and focusing heavily on lore. We’ve got a story to tell here and we do it through songs, our stage personas, and through our cinematic content on social media. In the near future there’ll be some more directly focused lore-driven material coming out so we’re pretty excited about that.

What are some of the band’s greatest influences?

Cameron: Musically we have a few influences to say the least uh, Radiohead, My Chemical Romance, Falling in Reverse…

Sam: I’d say Metallica too,
Cameron: Yeah we’re definitely leaning in a heavier direction right now. Along with that our inspirations for our characters are definitely Ghost, Slipknot, Alice Cooper. Going further back the idea of wanting to do stage personas in general was heavily influenced by David Bowie for me at least.
Sam: Well and of course the goal of the story is more than just entertaining, we also want to encapsulate our own personal journeys and struggles. I think we’ve done well weaving together each of our own struggles and faults into our characters. Definitely similar to how Alice Cooper views his stage presence versus the man behind the scenes.

Ben: So as a band what are your future goals?

Cameron: Our goal currently is to create music that speaks to people, I feel,  and give a voice to… in places where we have felt silent.

Sam: And I think a large part of what our driving force is is to reach the most amount of people so that, you know, those people who don’t have a voice have someone to resonate with. There’s a quote that “we belong to the people at the back of the room” and that has always struck chord with me. So I think growing our fan base is great, but it’s more about being able to reach the most people I think

Cameron: I agree. As far as future goals, I mean it would be nice to be able to perform our music to those people. YeahI just see performing music to the people that mean the most to us. And I also want to create something cinematic that people can resonate with an experience through a different means from what people are used to experiencing bands through.

Ben: And what do you mean when you say cinematic?

Cameron: So behind the scenes we have been working on a sort of episodic structure of unveiling our characters.

Sam: For sure, so we’ve been working on larger scale videos, almost short films to go along with the music that is released. So that for the more avid listeners, they can pick apart the meanings of the songs as well as the episodic content that comes out, to piece the story together on their own without needing it to be spoon fed to them. Which are elements that we really enjoy, the kind of ARG style “figure it out, if you want to know what it means figure it out.”

Ben: Cameron I hear there’s more to the band than just music can you elaborate on that.

Cameron: Absolutely, basically what we have been working on aside from the music is an entire world with our whole you know our characters and storyline we have going on, there are I would say a number of secrets and things to unfold, specifically if you keep an eye, open almost a puzzle.

Sam: Sure, well, and if you go through all of our social media, and even woven into our lyrics, there are clues about those puzzles–namely surrounding our single Someone Else’s Skin that we put out a couple months ago, throughout our social media videos, in the descriptions and you know the wordings of the scripts all kind of mesh together for the fans to put together.

Cameron: And some more obvious than the other for sure but it’s there’s a lot in there if you look into it and definitely a whole lot more.
