Fame on Fire Exclusive Interview with the Fusion Press

We’re just four days past the release of Fame on Fire’s latest, hard-hitting single Not Dead Yet, and I had the opportunity to chat briefly (in a socially distant manner, of course) with vocalist and frontman of Fame on Fire, Bryan Kuznitz, in a Fusion Press exclusive interview to learn more about the track, what the band has been up to, and what they’re excited about going forward.

Interview

Wes:

“What was the creative process for the new single? It’s obviously pretty heavy, but I think a lot of people would love to know how this song came to be in the midst of the struggle it talks about.”

Bryan:

“There’s really two sides to the process for this song. The melody came one day while we were in the studio because Blake, our guitar player, was playing a voice memo on his phone. I heard the memo and was like ‘yo, that’s fantastic, we need to use that melody.’ From there, like any other song, we went on to put chords and a tempo to the melody, and it just felt right.

My own creative process for lyrics is really like therapy. I don’t usually tell other people how I’m feeling all the time, and when write I just try to say what it is I think I need to say and keep rolling with that. Based on where I was – where my mental state was – at the time I wrote this song I knew I needed to write it for the therapy, and I think people are really going to connect with it because of that.”

Wes:

“You guys have a new album coming up Sept. 4th, can you tell me a little more about that? More specifically, is there anything on there that’s gonna surprise people, or anything that you guys are personally really excited about? I know bands always have favorite tracks, and I’m curious what the consensus is for you guys.”

Bryan:

“Yeah there definitely is! I’m really excited for the intro track, which is just titled ‘Cover Band.’ We’ve worked to chip away at the stigma of that association for a few years now, but there are definitely still people out there who like to call us a cover band. The track is actually purely instrumental, but I think it’ll be funny and just a lot of fun for anyone listening. I won’t say why I think that just yet, but I like having a bit of satire to start the album. I also think the song ‘Crazy for Your Crazy’ isn’t a song people will expect. I’m pretty sure it’s the only song in a major key, but it’s not a ballad, and I’m excited to know what the perception of that song is going to be.”

Wes:

“Aside from releasing music, how have you guys been spending your COVID-19 summer? How did COVID affect touring and how did you adjust your plans for the summer season?”

Bryan:

“Fortunately, up to this point we haven’t been a band that needs to tour that much because we’ve always been good about getting fans through the internet. So while we’ve all been quarantined it’s been a lot of team meetings, game planning, and content creation as we go forward. We’ve even begun looking into next year after having to cancel two upcoming tours. We really want to stay relevant coming out of this pandemic, and we’re definitely keeping ourselves busy to make sure that happens.”

Not Dead Yet is available on all major music platforms, and you can pre-save and pre-order their highly anticipated new album Levels here. You can also keep up with the band on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and the band’s official website.
